Digipak and poster shoot- plan

Today I will be taking my photographs for the digipak and poster for Kiki.

The weather
Today it is 'partly cloud' with, fortunately, no rain. This is great as there's no rain to distrust the shoot and the lighting will be just fine. Sun would be even better, however that's not expected in this season.

Setting
This is my chosen setting, my neighbors back garden. This is because there a are flowers and bushes(something that I want to include in the images), a blank wall for images with a plain background and just the overall natural setting it creates.

Outfit

This is Kiki's outfit. She's wearing a mustard colour jumper which I believe is a nice colour, it's not too vibrant but not too plain, and black jeans. The outfit is quite simple but the yellow is a nice touch. Furthermore, the colours will work well with the flowers and I'll be using in the setting.

Equipment

For the shoot I will be using a DSLR camera. I believe this the best choice for the photographs as the DSLR takes images in high quality and has more complex settings than other cameras allowing me to change the shutter speed, aperture, colour balance etc.

Production Log- Digipak shoot planning

This week I will be taking photographs for my digipak and poster. There are a few things that I need to consider;
  • The weather
  • The setting
  • The models outfit
  • Camera settings

The shoot is important as I need it to reflect my artist and the song genre. I will be referring to my digipak and poster sketch as this is what I feel will be successful.

Blog review

Me and my teacher sat down, looked through my blog and discussed what needs to be done and what can be improved. These are the things that I need to do/finish to keep my blog good and up to date.

Song lyrics analysis

Here, I have analysed my chosen songs lyrics. This is so I can ensure I understand what every lyrics means which will help me create the link between the lyrics and my music video.

Poster Sketch

This is my album poster sketch for my artists album.

I have a medium shot of my artist, with flowers surrounding her. This follows the same theme as the digipak, the flowers reflect the Indie Folk genre through the use of nature. She's also wearing the same outfit as in the digipak, I want them to be from the same shoot.

Next to the main image is 'Debut album, the featuring single and release date. This is in a different and smaller font than the artists name, so I could separate them. I've use the style of the lines above and below the text, same as in the digipak to keep these theme recurring.

Her name is at the top which is decorated with flowers.Again, following the theme of the digipak. I positioned her name at the top to draw attention to it and to separate it from the main image and other text.

Digipak Sketch

The theme is simplistic on the outside and the inside is more vibrant with colour flowers. I want it to reflect the soft sounds of the music and the folk genre.

The front cover has her face on the front with her name to the left, this is because I want her to be a key feature in the digipak. The font that her name is in is thin, spaced out, and minimal.

The back cover uses the same font as the front cover. Like the front cover, there are lines at the top and the bottom of the text.

The house style is another image of my artist in a different context. She's sitting on steps of a house, with flower patterns. These would need to be added in photoshop.

The lyric book uses a different font, that has flowers edited into them. For the lyric book, I will actually make a separate book.

The first CD disk, uses the flower pattern again, as this is part of my style of digipak. The flowers are coming out of the middle circle, as if they are growing from this. Above, is the artists name and album title, in the same font as the front cover. It's common for the album title to be on the disks in digipaks.

The second cd disk, uses the same flower pattern as seen throughout the digipak, and in the first disk. In this disk, the flowers are coming from the edge of the disk. The album title and artists name is on the disk with 'disk 2' at the bottom. This is my second disk which is a bonus and features acoustic versions of Kiki's songs.

Kiki Logo

Now that I have chosen a font I need to make a logo.

I have spaced the letters out because they look too squashed together when they're not:

I've added lines as I think this makes it appear more like a logo instead of just text on its own.

Kiki Font Options

For Kiki's logo I need to chose an appropriate font, so I have been scrolling through DAFONT.com to find some to choose from. I cut it down to about 5 that seemed appropriate for my artist and I printed them and asked for opinions from my peers.

Because I'm working on my own I'm the only contributor so it's hard to have different opinions inputed. So, I thought asking the class would help me get a different opinion. I handed them the sheet, explained who my artist was and what genre and they was in and they chose the one they liked. Here's the result:

The most popular was Aracne Ultra Condensed, I think this may be because it's simple but suits the Indie Folk Genre. The others have too much detail and would be too distracting.

Song choices

Wolf Alice- We're Not The Same

By Indie Rock band Wolf Alice, We're Not The Same is about a relationship between two people where one feels they are lesser than the other "we're not the same, you and I". Half of the song just uses one guitar, then the song climaxes to the part where another guitar and drums come in that creates a more hard tone to the song.

I've picked this song for consideration as firstly it fits my genre and artist. I feel the song would be good for a music video as I could create a narrative of a couple where the main subject(Kikin) feels inferior to her partner and throughout the video we would see how they are different and drift apart. In between this narrative there would be shots of her singing in a studio with instruments and a few lights.

Lucy Rose- Middle Of The Bed

By Indie Folk artist Lucy Rose, Middle Of The Bed is about someone questioning their love for their past lover, and if they want them back "Do you want me back?". The song uses acoustic guitars all the way through.

I picked this song for consideration as it fits my genre and my artist. I think I could create a good music video for the song as I could make a narrative of my artists thinking about a past lover and denying the love she still has for him.
